NJ STATE TROOPER - Motor Vehicle Collision

The crew from Rescue 5 is standing by to assist ALS in loading the patient into the awaiting helicopter.
On June 6, 1996, a New Jersey State Trooper was parked in the shoulder next to the median of the New Jersey Turnpike running radar on cars approaching him from behind. A Nissan Pathfinder, doing an estimated speed of 65 mph, drifted into the shoulder and collided with the NJ State Trooper.
Rescue 5 was dispatched to the New Jersey Turnpike for a serious auto accident with confirmed entrapment and responded shortly there after. It wasn’t until arriving on scene that the crew discovered that it was a state trooper.
ALS, already on scene, relayed to the crew that he was in very critical condition. 14 minutes later, after performing a door pop, the NJ State Trooper was extricated to an awaiting helicopter and transported to a Cooper Hospital, a level 1 trauma center. The NJ State Trooper, subsequently died from the injuries sustained in the collision.

The police car was pushed into the median and spun around by the pathfinder. The entire trunk and backseat were crushed into the drivers seat. Pay particular attention to the dry chemical extinguisher, which exploded inside the trunk from the impact onto the ground
