Fire Safety Tips
When to notify the fire department . . . ALWAYS call 911 whenever you have ANY TYPE of fire in your house! Just because you think you may have extinguished the fire, it may not be TRULY extinguished. Have the fire department verify it for you.
Home Fire Escape Plan . . . Have an escape plan and make sure all the family members know it. Practice the plan every six months. Keep emergency numbers, a whistle and a flashlight near the telephone. Identify an outside meeting place. NEVER return into a burning building. Know how to call for emergency assistance. Smoke Detectors . . . Place smoke detectors near Bedrooms. Make sure there is a smoke detector on Every Floor of the house and in the Garage!
Test the batteries and clean dust from smoke detectors monthly. Change batteries twice a year. An easy way to remember this, is to change them at Daylight Savings Time. Replace smoke detectors every 10 years.
